OCU Students Visit Washington D.C. and Congressman Stephen Austria (OH-7)

Fourteen of Ohio Christian University's top students were selected by Dr. David H. Garrison, Department Chair of Business, for a two day visit to Washington D.C. on April 14th and 15th, 2010. The purpose of the visit was to spend time with U.S. Congressman Stephen Austria, Ohio's 7th District, to share their concerns about matters impacting university students and the state of the economy. Congressman Austria warmly received these students and fielded questions and provided an excellent briefing of the many concerns of these select OCU students.

Additionally, Dr. Garrison arranged for a briefing on Healthcare reform from the nation's top expert, Robert Moffit Ph.D., the Director of Health Policy Studies at the Heritage Foundation. Dr. Moffit has been a regular on most television networks due to his assistance to Governor Romney of Massachusetts when Massachusetts setup their state healthcare program and because of his expertise in the field.

The students who received a special invitation for the Washington D.C. visit were: Lauren Bivens, Ben Ballein, Daniel Chapman, DeLorean Glanton, Jennifer Lloyd, Julie Brown, Keith Redfern, Nonna Melnik, Stuart Hostetter, Sam Sisley, Tim Baker, Tamara Holder, Michael Farrell.

October 2, 2009 OCU Announces Business Internship Program

Ohio Christian University President, Dr. Mark Smith announced a business internship program today as part of the new business program at Ohio Christian University. The Business Internship Program is designed to allow local employers and OCU’s top business students an opportunity to match real-world business experience with students’ interests and capabilities.

OCU business students are required to obtain a business internship during their junior or senior years with an emphasis on exposure to management principles. Students receive academic credit while obtaining hands-on-experience on how a business operates in today’s challenging economy. Depending on the business opportunity and the length of the engagement, students may be offered paid or unpaid internships since they receive academic credit for the experience.

In addition to business internships, OCU Business students may perform a limited number of no-cost small business consulting engagements under the supervision of OCU Business Department professors in lieu of a business internship. Currently, two seniors, Brittany Martin & Jillian Weimer are performing a consulting engagement for the Pickaway County Welcome Center, as part of the Business Internship Program.

Business students at OCU have a wide range of business disciplines under the new business program. They may now major in 5 business concentrations; Business Administration (accounting & finance), Business Management, Logistics & Supply Chain, International Business, and General Business.

Employers who are willing to engage OCU Business students for a limited period in their business and expose them to the challenges of managing a business are asked to contact OCU’s Business Department Chair, David Garrison at 740-477-7741 or dgarrison@ohiochristian.edu
